4th Grade Friday Newsletter 11/19/10

Dear Parents,
This has been a very busy week. We started working on our Chanukah play and everyone is very excited! Please make sure that your child starts to memorize his/her part for the play. We have also learned the story of how Lavan tricks Yaakov into marrying his older daughter Leah instead of Rachel. We are going to take a break from learning Navi so that we can learn about Chanukah. Here are some questions you can ask your child this Shabbat:
1. What were the wages that Yaakov wanted for working for Lavan? (He would work 7 years in order to marry Rachel.)

2. What were the seven years of working for Lavan like for Yaakov? (They were like a few days because he loved her so much.)

3. Why did these seven years feel so short for Yaakov, shouldn’t they have felt like a very long time since he wasn’t married to her? (He loved helping her and doing things for her during the seven years so the time just flew by!)

4. What did Yaakov say after he finished working for seven years? (I have fulfilled my obligation, now bring me Rachel so I can marry her.)

5. What did Lavan do? (He made a wedding party. Then he switched Leah for Rachel.)

6. What did Yaakov say to Lavan after he found out about the switch? (What did you do to me? Didn’t I work for Rachel? Why did you trick me?)

7. What did Lavan answer? (In our place we do not marry the younger one before the older one.)

8. What did Lavan do for Yaakov with Rachel? (He said that he should finish the wedding week then he would give him Rachel for another 7 years of work.)

9. What did Yaakov say to Lavan’s proposal? (He agreed.)

10. What was the name of Leah’s maidservant? (Zilpah)

11. What was the name of Rachel’s maidservant? (Bilhah)

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Hauser
